I am available to teach oboe private lessons for beginners to semi-professionals. Lessons can either be held at my home, or in the comfort of your own home! If I must travel a great distance to your home, the rates will adjust accordingly. Please contact me for the exact rate.

2009-2010 Private Oboe Lesson Rates
$60 for 60 minutes
$50 for 45 minutes
$40 for 30 minutes (beginners only!)

Required Materials
I expect you to come prepared to each and every lesson. In order for the lesson to be a successful one, please make sure you always bring the following:

* Oboe
* Reeds and Reed Case
You must bring at least two reeds to each lesson. Your reeds must be stored in a reed case and not in the original container.
Making reeds: I do teach reed making. If you are interested in pursuing this, please let me know. If you already make yor own reeds, please bring your reed making supplies with you to each lesson.
Buying reeds: There are many wonderful options out there.  You can either purchase reeds from me (reeds at $12 each and at least one week  notice is required) or from other suppliers. Please contact me  for a list of other suppliers before purchasing reeds from an outside source as there are some "better" places/individuals to go to. Beginning students should purchase medium soft reeds. More advanced students should purchase medium reeds. Do not purchase fibercane reeds.
* Tuner and Metronome
There are many inexpensive options available. Please let me know before purchasing one.
* Pencil and Assignment Book (preferably with staff lines)
* A
ll assigned music
I usually begin with the Rubank Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced Method books, or the Gekeler Method books. As the student becomes more advanced, I will assign duets and/or solo literature and more advanced etudes (Ferling and Barret).

Practicing
Learning how to play the oboe requires dedication, enthusiasm, and lots of patience! It is a challenging instrument to learn. Therefore, regular and consistent practice is required! In order to make the most of our lessons, I expect you to practice at least 5 days a week. Each practice session should be a minimum of 20 minutes for beginner students, 30 minutes for intermediate students, and 45 minutes for advanced students.

Cancellations
24-hour notice is required if you will not be able to attend your lesson, unless you must cancel because of sudden illness or a family emergency. If I am given ample notice, payment for a missed lesson will be deferred to the next month.

Payment
I prefer to be paid by the lesson. Cash or check is fine. If a student misses more than three lessons in a row without 24-hour notice, I will charge lessons by the month and require payment in advance.

Please contact me if you are interested in lessons.
